Route Description for Sunset Trail to Brookbank Trail Loop

The Sunset Trail to Brookbank Trail Loop is a debatably underappreciated multi-use trail in the Dry Lake Hills area. This is a beautiful route with lots to see, but thankfully, it sees fewer users than many other hikes in the same area. It feels far away from the city, even though it’s only 20 minutes from downtown Flagstaff. Hikers, trail runners, and bikers can all enjoy this trail.

The dirt road to the trailhead is a little bit rough, but it’s nothing too difficult. Very low clearance vehicles may have to take it slow. From the trailhead, take Sunset Trail. Pass the Schultz Tank and begin to climb the slope ahead of you. Atop this slope, take a minute to admire the view before traversing southwest along the edge of the ridge, following Brookbank Trail as it passes the lake. Hop onto Little Gnarly Trail and then bear right onto Schultz Loop Trail, which will lead you back to the trailhead.
