Route Description for River Eachaig and Massan Circular Walk
The River Eachaig and Massan Circular Walk is a top-notch choice for those looking for a moderate walk without any steep hill climbs while still enjoying the spectacular scenery of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. The route begins in the Benmore Botanical Garden, home to an impressive collection of Giant Sequoias, laid to root in 1863 and sprawling walled gardens.
From the carpark of the Benmore Botanic Garden, set out on the A815, following the old road which is just past Eckford House. Make a right and re-cross the main road, picking up the trail that leads over the River Eachaig via an iron footbridge. Continue along the path, enjoying the tranquil scene along the riverbank, and you’ll soon reach a junction marked by the crossing with Glen Massan road. Take this path, which ushers you onto a less well-marked and more rugged trail, as you walk 500 m on a curving path, leaving the river behind to join the forest path that heads up to Glen Massan. Follow the Glen Massan road, either opting to continue straight ahead or complete a short 200 m loop along the banks of the Eachaig (sign-posted), which eventually rejoins Glen Massan Road. Turn right, and walk for less than a mile to cross the stone bridge, suspended over the Massan River. After the crossing, turn right to follow the banks of the River Eachaig again, taking note of an old iron bridge, a weird, and a second iron bridge which soon leads back to the Benmore Garden Park, where the circular walk concludes.
