Yellowstone is a very popular place to hike, and for good reason.
You’ll wake up in one of the cabins at the Lake Lodge. The rocking chairs on the porches facing the lake are such a great feature. The oldest cabins at Lake Lodge were built in the 1920’s but have seen a modern facelift. For breakfast, get an early start at the Lake Lodge Cafeteria. It opens at 6:30 a.m.

Drive to Old Faithful to see the geyser and the lodge here. It’s a bit of a drive from the Lake Lodge but, obviously, seeing all the geysers is well worth it. You can accomplish the hike of the upper geyser basin after stopping to see Old Faithful first. We love this hike. It’s a “perfect day” kind of hike.
After your first hike of the day, go for a nice lunch at the Old Faithful Dining Room. You’ll need to make reservations but the classic old lodge hall will really take you back. After your meal, start driving back towards the Lake Lodge, but don’t go all the way back. You’ll be stopping at your next trailhead first!
The second hike will take you along the South Rim taking in Uncle Tom’s Trail. This hike is full of waterfall views. Uncle Tom’s trail can be a bit tricky, but also quite fun. It should take 1-2h as well.
By this time the heat will be getting to you. We have a two-step plan to help with that. Step one, head to the Canyon Village General Store and grab an Ice Cream or a Milkshake. You might also want to grab some snacks because dinner is at a bit of a later hour. Step two, go the lake!
Yellowstone Lake will give you the cool breezes and beautiful views that your afternoon needs. You have two options. You can let someone do all the work for you on the Scenicruise, getting toured around the lake, learning about the history, and watching for eagles, ospreys, waterfowl, and bison. Or, you can drive your own boat! You can easily rent one through the hotel.
Next, you’ll relax back in your luxurious cabin until dinner. Once you feel refreshed, you can head to Lake Yellowstone Hotel’s Dining Room. It’s the best place to eat in Yellowstone. You’ll be treated to beautiful views and delicious food. The Lobster sliders are delicious. Make sure you save room for dessert. You earned it today.
Before you turn in, watch the sunset on Lake Yellowstone from those great rocking chairs at Lake Lodge. This amazing natural paradise is one of a kind. Reflect back on your adventurous day.
