We love to stay on the Eastern edge of Yosemite, and have fallen in love with the area around June Lake. Our favorite hikes are almost all on the Tioga Road, and the drive to the Tioga Road is incredibly scenic.
So, book your stay at the Double Eagle Resort and Spa. They have hotel rooms, cabins, or a guesthouse, so pick the option that feels like the perfect accommodation. We love the cabins. Regardless of what you pick, Double Eagle Resort has the luxury and amenities that befit a perfect day and a perfect stay.
Wake up bright and early for fishing at June Lake, near the coves and around the marinas, is the best place for a successful catch. There is a place for every experience level, June Lake brings in avid fishermen and beginners. June Lake is home Lahontan cutthroat trout, rainbow and brown trout.
Then head to the Tiger Bar and Cafe for a quick breakfast and coffee. Their “Tiger Chips” (homemade potato chips, if that wasn’t obvious) are amazing. It’s a great American Diner experience, and a great breakfast to kick-start your day.
Drive 30 minutes to the trailhead of your hike, Mount Dana. It’s the second highest peak in Yosemite. The summit views spread out in 360 degrees. You’ll see alpine glaciers, rugged peaks, sub-alpine meadows, valleys, and Mono Lake. The totally stunning hike takes 4.5-6hours. Pack some snacks.
For a great lunch you’ll go to Epic Cafe. It’s organic, local, delicious, and comes with great customer service. After a big hike, you’ll appreciate the big portions and reasonable prices. Next, meander on down to June Lake Brewing to get out of the afternoon heat. They have a great tap list of beer made on site and a chill atmosphere.
After a few cold ones, walk or get a ride back to Double Eagles resort. You have nothing to worry about until dinner, which conveniently is at the hotel. At Eagles Landing Restaurant you’ll be able to enjoy great views with your excellent meal. They have a patio and a pine lodge aesthetic. The menu is nice without being pompous. They offer steaks and fish selections as well as good rotisserie options like ribs and chicken.
To cap off an adventurous day, relax at the indoor pool and hot tub. Float around and think back on all the great memories you forged today. Perfect days like this don’t come around often enough.
