Day 1 Arrive and Optional Walk in Chemal

Arrive at the airport, where you’ll be greeted by a representative and taken by private transfer to your accommodations in Chemal. You’ll have a chance to soak up your first views of the Altai Region during this drive.

Check in to your comfortable country guesthouse, where you can freshen up before enjoying lunch, followed by an optional walk to Patmos island and the observation deck of the Che-Chkysh Gorge.

Day 2 Drive the Chuya Highway to Southern Gorny Altai

This morning following breakfast, you’ll enjoy a pleasant drive along the famous Chuya Highway towards the southern region of Gorny Altai. Enjoy this scenic joyride as you spot the impressive Seminski Pass (1,717m/5,633ft) as well as the Chike-Taman Pass. A short hike in the vicinity of the Chike-Taman Pass sets the tone for the afternoon as you bask in the glorious scenery of peaks draped in green and the rushing Chuya and Katun rivers.

Following a pleasant dose of Altai scenery, you’ll head to the Inegen Agricultural Farm, where you’ll be resting your head for the next two nights! Enjoy a scenic walk this afternoon, taking in the pretty springs around Inegen.

Day 3 Argut River Hike

A 1-hour drive will whisk you off to the Argut River this morning. Once there, you’ll hike to a fabulous viewpoint where you’ll enjoy lunch. If the weather is clear, you’ll be able to take in the highest peak of the Altai Mountains, mighty Mount Belukha (4,506m/14,783ft)!

Choose between an adventure on land or an adventure on water this afternoon as you enjoy optional rafting or horseback riding excursions at the Argut River.

After working up a healthy appetite during today’s adventures, you’ll be treated to an assortment of traditional Altayan dishes at dinner tonight. Eat and rest well this evening, as your first exciting day of trekking in the Altai Mountains is on the horizon!

Day 4 Aktru Mountain

This morning you’ll drive to Kuray, making a worthwhile pit stop at Kurayskaya Steppe, where the views will quite literally take your breath away. Pause and admire the snow-capped peaks, glacier-fed rivers, and dense cedar forest, creating the natural canvas of the Aktru Valley. From the steppe, you’ll fix your eyes on the North Chuysky Ridge (4,000m/13,123ft), a wonderful reminder of the might and majesty of this region.

Up next, you’ll jump in a 4X4 vehicle and drive to the Aktru mountain camp (2,150m/7,053ft), where you’ll get settled in your rustic alpine hut. Enjoy a well-earned dinner and set out on a hike to explore the camp and surrounding areas.

Day 5 Aktru River, Bolshoy Aktru Glacier, and Lake Goluboe

Today your trekking journey of the Altai glaciers begins as you set out from camp, hiking along the Aktru River. An exhilarating climb to the Big Aktru Glacier will lead you to the majestic Lake Goluboe (2,840m/9,317ft), also known as Blue Lake. Here, the dazzling azure lake tinted by mineral deposits contrasts remarkably with the ivory slopes of the Small and Big Aktru glaciers, a scene you’ll no doubt want to capture on camera.

Return to the mountain camp and enjoy a Russian banya (traditional steam bath) this evening. Those well-worked muscles will thank you for the restorative soak!

Day 6 Kupol Peak and Views of Chuya Ridge

Today’s trek has you embarking on an exhilarating climb of the Kupol Peak (3,556m/11,666ft). Following the challenging climb, you’ll be rewarded with sensational views of the North Chuya and South Chuya Ridge.

Back at camp, savour another relaxing Russian banya this evening before enjoying a typical Russian trekking dinner around the fire.

Day 7 Uchitjel Peak and Yurt Stay

The adrenalin will be flowing this morning as you hike to the summit of Uchitjel Peak (4,540m/14,895ft). Soak up the views before returning to the base at Aktru and packing up to depart.

A 1.5-hour transfer will take you to “Nikolai’s Meadow,” where you’ll enjoy an overnight stay in a traditional yurt located in the middle of the Kurai steppe. A traditional dinner will be served in the yurt, followed by an optional banya.

Day 8 Kuray Village Experience and the Pazyryk Tombs

With several solid days of trekking under your belt, it's now time to soak up some culture with a visit to a traditional Altaian Village. The tiny village of Kuray will welcome you with open arms as you enjoy a guided tour of the area, followed by a presentation on the indigenous Altaian people and their fascinating culture.

This afternoon as you transfer to the Chulyshman Valley, you'll break up the ride with a short hike around the famous Pazyryk burial mounds. The ancient tombs, nearly 2000 years old and dating back to the Iron Age, belonged to the Pazyryk Civilization.

Enjoy lunch near Ulagan before transferring to the Katuyaryk Pass, known as one of the most picturesque passes in all of Altai. Then, arriving in the Chulyshman Valley, you'll settle into tonight's camp before enjoying a scenic hike to Kurkure Falls (optional).

Day 9 Hike to Teletskoye Lake

Swap out your hiking boots for paddles this morning as you embark on a rafting adventure down the Chulyshman River (this is optional).

Back on land, you’ll transfer to Kamennye griby camp by vehicle before tackling the Chulyshman River again by boat. A boat transfer will take you across the lake, where you’ll hike to the “Mushroom Rocks.” Standing five meters tall, these strange rocks, sculpted by weather systems and erosion, are a fascinating sight to take in.

Return to camp and enjoy a hot drink before hiking to beautiful Teletskoye Lake, where you’ll enjoy lunch on the shore. Then, aboard a motorboat, you’ll transfer north on the lake, visiting Korbu Falls along the way.

Tonight’s dinner menu features grilled and skewered Altaian deer (Maral shashlik), a local specialty that is sure to satisfy even the most well-developed palate!

Day 10 Tilan-Tuu Mount and Return to Gorno-Altaisk

Spend some time this morning soaking up the serenity of the Teletskoye Lake, taking in the colours of deep blues and greens that surround you. Setting out on a short hike, you’ll explore the area of Artybash and head to a fantastic viewpoint on Tilan-Tuu Mount.

Following lunch, you’ll transfer to Gorno-Altaisk and visit a museum this afternoon if time permits.

Tonight, you’ll enjoy a farewell dinner, celebrating the epic memories made over the past 10 days. Soak up your final moments in Altai and get a good night’s rest at tonight’s comfortable hotel accommodations.
