Route Description for Laguna Torre Hike
While stretches of the Laguna Torre Hike do feature some rugged terrain, overall this is an epic adventure that will reveal some of the best scary in Argentine Patagonia. As long as you are prepared for the distance, there is no reason not to enjoy this unforgettable hike in Los Glaciares National Park!
Setting out from the trailhead in El Chaltén, you will initially make your way north past the Laguna Planta Estable, keeping left at a series of junctions to walk past the Monument to a careless trekker. From here, the path will turn to the southwest through some scattered tree cover, bringing you to the Mirador del Cerro Torre.
Take a moment here to admire the breathtaking Patagonian scenery, before making your way along the path as it leads west toward Laguna Torre. Here, you will be following a route that runs parallel to the Río Fitz Roy on your left. After arriving at a fork in the trail, keep right onto the Senda a Laguna Torre and follow it through the forest.
Along this wooded portion of the hike, you will pass by a campsite, before eventually breaking free of the tree cover at the edge of Laguna Torre. Here, you will be met by stunning views across the glacial lake that include countless rugged peaks like Cerro Torre and Adela to the west, as well as the retreating expanse of the Glaciar Torre.
After taking some time to explore the lakeshore and revel in the incredible views, follow the trail as it leads east past the C.B. D’ Agostini campground. With the banks of the Río Fitz Roy now on your right, you will quickly arrive back at a junction from earlier on in your hike, keeping right in order to make the return journey to El Chaltén.
Shortly after passing by the Mirador del Cerro Torre, you will keep right at a fork in order to follow an alternative path back to the trailhead. Along the way, you will pass by the Mirador Cascada Margarite, which offers wonderful views overlooking a valley with mountains in the distance.
After the viewpoint, follow the trail northeast and keep left at the fork to arrive back at the starting point of the Laguna Torre Hike. If you are after another spectacular hike that sets out from El Chaltén, why not try the Laguna Capri Hike.
