Route Description for Laguna Capri Hike
Chances are that if you have made your way to El Chaltén, you will have an action packed itinerary lined up; but if you only find yourself there for a short time, you will absolutely need to complete the Laguna Capri Hike. Offering a good challenge and stunning scenery, it is the perfect hike if you can’t afford to spend hours on end out on the trails.
Setting out from the Sendero la Fitz Roy trailhead at the north end of El Chaltén, you will keep left at the initial fork and make your way through the light tree cover. Here, you will immediately begin climbing up a somewhat steep route that will bring you to the Mirador Río de las Vueltas for an incredible view of the river valley.
From here, the trail continues on to the northwest through the rugged terrain, crossing over a stream before entering back into the tree cover. Arriving at another fork in the path, you will eventually find yourself at the pristine shoreline of Laguna Capri. Take some time here to appreciate the breathtaking views of rugged mountain peaks that tower above the crystal clear lake, before continuing north along the path.
Keeping right at a series of forks, the trail will bend back towards the east and bring you to Mirador del Fitz Roy, a scenic vantage point with views looking out onto the impressive rocky peak. After visiting the viewpoint, the trail will turn south through the tree cover, eventually bringing you back to a fork from earlier in your hike.
Keeping to the left, you will begin losing elevation as you steadily work your way back toward El Chaltén to wrap up your time on the Laguna Capri Hike. If you are looking for another incredible adventure in the area, be sure to check out some of our other Los Glaciares adventures, such as the Laguna Torre Hike.
