Route Description for Timber Top and Boronda Trail
Those yearning for a challenging day hike in Big Sur will enjoy the Timber Top and Boronda Trail. This exciting adventure yields wonderful views of the Pacific and the encompassing mountainous landscape. Put your stamina to the test as you tackle this leg burner. Note that much of the trail is exposed, so best check the forecast, wear SPF and head out in the morning to beat the unbearable heat.
Your relentless climb up the Timber Top and Boronda Trail begins from the parking lot and trailhead off Cabrillo Highway. From here, the Timber Top/Boronda Trail will guide you northeastwardly up a set of switchbacks before straightening out, heading northwestwardly! Ascending through tree stands and wildflower meadows, the path will near Lafler Creek, ultimately directing you up to another batch of switchbacks. After navigating the winding, steep terrain, you will ultimately reach the Timber Top Camp between Boronda Ridge and Timber Top.
Atop the coastline cliffs, you will be granted panoramic views of the dramatic Californian coastline and the encompassing mountains. Revel in the expansive vistas, and when you are ready, retrace your footing back down the path to the trailhead.
