Jailhouse Rock and Temple Rock Trail
The Jailhouse Rock and Temple Rock Trail is a great hike for the whole family. This trail leads you past two impressive formations in the Cathedral District of Capitol Reef National Park. This route is relatively flat the whole way and will provide you with incredible views of this magnificent area of the Utah desert.

Route Description for Jailhouse Rock and Temple Rock Trail
The Jailhouse Rock and Temple Rock trail is an incredible hike for the whole family. Access to this trailhead is along a rugged, unmaintained road. A vehicle with high clearance and 4WD is strongly recommended. The star of this hike: Jailhouse Rock is an impressive 6,123-foot formation of Entrada sandstone. Bring along lots of water and take your time hiking this trail, the wonder and beauty of this area is truly something to behold.
From the trailhead, follow the path westward past Jailhouse rock and continue on to a viewpoint overlooking Temple Rock.
A faint trail continues southwest from here but the viewpoint for Temple rock is a good place to turn around and head back to the trailhead.
Getting to the Jailhouse Rock and Temple Rock Trail Trailhead
This hike begins at the end of the Lower South Desert Overlook Spur road off of Habernet Road north of Fruita.
