The Fremont Gorge Trail is a moderately challenging hike with outstanding views of the Fremont Gorge. This route is a steady and unrelenting uphill climb but we promise the sore legs are worth it. The views from the top are absolutely breathtaking. For an especially incredible experience, try this hike at sunset.

Route Description for Fremont Gorge Trail
The Fremont Gorge trail is a fantastic hike to a stunning viewpoint overlooking the Fremont River. This hike is a steady climb, so come prepared with proper, supportive footwear. We recommend bringing along hiking poles for this route to aid in the ascent and to save your knees some strain on the way down.
Bring along lots of water on this hike and a tasty snack to enjoy at the top. You will also want to pack the camera for this one, the views from the Fremont Gorge overlook are absolutely breathtaking.
From the trailhead, follow the path southeast then take a hard right to hop on the trail and begin your climb. You will see a 4x4 trail join in on the right, just stay straight on ahead at this junction.
After a solid climb you will reach the Fremont Gorge Overlook. Take a well deserved rest at the top and soak in the GORGEous views of the Fremont river below before turning around and following the same path back down to the trailhead.
Getting to the Fremont Gorge Trail Trailhead
This hike begins at the Fremont Gorge Overlook Trailhead along Capitol Reef Scenic Drive, just north of the Fruita Campground.
