Route Description for Almshill Wood and Stonor Park Walk

The Almshill Wood and Stonor Park Walk in Chiltern Hills is a lush, scenic countryside walk that has you climbing over two stiles and passing through three kissing gates. Dogs can pass under the gaps in the stiles! Do note that while dogs are allowed on this walk, it’s recommended to avoid bringing them to deer parks (Stonor Park) during birthing and rutting seasons. 2.4 km of this walk has you meandering a country lane, so be mindful of the occasional vehicle passing you.

To start this walk, head towards the south end of the lay-by before crossing the road and over a stile. Follow the fence line closely, which will be on your left. Soon, you’ll reach another stile, cross over it, and enter a lovely woodland area. Continue walking through Almshill Wood, looking for white arrows etched on tree trunks. This section is steep and will get your heart rate up! When you reach a vehicle track, keep left and continue climbing. Soon, an intersection of paths will emerge. Take the track branch, travelling through trees with a fenced property to your right. When you reach a kissing gate, take it and follow the concrete driveway for Coxlease Farm.

Follow the driveway until you reach a junction for a quieter country lane. Take a left, looking out for the occasional vehicle as you walk. Continue following this lane as it swerves, passing by Kildridge Wood, the entrance for Bosmore Farm. Eventually, you’ll take a right, turning onto the road with a sign for Southend. Admire the rolling Chiltern hills after a set of trees.
When trees take over the scenery again, another crossroad will emerge. Take a left onto Chiltern Way, which will join a stone track leading into Stonor Park. Follow the stone path and the white arrows along the trees! If you’re walking with your dog, now is the time to put them on a lead. The path will lead by the historic Stonor House.

Finally, the path will travel to another kissing gate along the park border, which will take you to a junction. Take a left to meet up with B480 road. Aim to walk along the right-hand verge. Look out for traffic as you follow this road back to your vehicle.
