Route Description for Blackmer Loop Trail
Explore the area’s flora and fauna as you venture the Blackmer Loop Trail. Though the pièce-de-résistance along this adventure is the epic view of Cheyenne Mountain towering above, the lush meadows and mixed pine woodlands provide amazing scenery too! As you wander, be sure to keep an eye out for grazing deer, bears, and even mountain lions! Note this trek is shared with bikers, so be mindful of passers-by. Additionally, the State Park charges an entrance fee which typically costs around $9USD per vehicle.
Departing from the Racoon Ridge Trailhead, the Blackmer Loop Hike tracks east before diverting south along the backside of the Swift Puma Campground. This trail will guide you over the JL Ranch Heights Road, where hikers will merge onto the rightmost Boulder Run Trail. Now heading west, the trail will gradually climb while revealing awe-inspiring vistas of the mountain above. At the next junction, veer left, and you will be diverted onto the Blackmer Loop. Follow this path, weaving between meadows and forest and down a set of switchbacks.
The Blackmer Loop Trail will guide you around a circuit, eventually delivering you back to the Boulder Run Trail. From here, keep right and retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead, marking the end of your adventure.
