Route Description for Lion Trail and Hogback Valley Trail
The Lion Trail and Hogback Valley Trail is a great route to explore the Red Rock Canyon Park. Adventure along the eastern side of the park, reveling in views of the looming red rock cliffs. This lovely route is a popular weekend escape, notably in the summer months, so be forewarned; you will likely be sharing the path with several other like-minded adventurers. Though less busy than most trails in the park, it is still a very popular nature walk! Head out in the morning to avoid the crowds and beat the heat!
Departing from the trailhead, your epic journey along the Lion Trail and Hogback Valley Trail follows the Red Rock Rim Trail northeast. Shortly after departing from the trailhead, you will reach an intersection; keep right here. The Red Rock Rim Trail will loop you southwest onto the Lion Trail. Once you merge onto the Lion Trail, you will be guided south along the ridgeline of a red rock bluff. As you wander, you will also be rewarded with sights of the verdant foothills.
At the end of the trail, take a sharp left turn to be diverted onto the 26th Street Trail, which will quickly merge into the Hogback Valley Trail. This path will lead you north along the base of the ridge, delivering awe-inspiring views! Turn right onto the Red Rock Rim Trail at the trail's end, which will deliver you back to the trailhead.
