Route Description for Palmer Park Outer Loop
The Palmer Park Outer Loop is a wonderful route that reveals the diversity and beauty of the state. With mountain views in the west, sights of the cityscape, and epic sandstone sculptures, this trek is anything but dull. The urban escape is ridden with dozens of paths to explore, so you can easily spend the day exploring the park! The trail is quite rocky, so mind your footing on the uneven terrain. Note that most of the routes are not signposted, so we highly suggest using the trail GPS to easily navigate the terrain.
Embark on your excursion along the Palmer Park Outer Loop from the South Knoll Picnic Area. From here head south along the South Kinnikinnick Trail through the meadowlands, past several campsites along the Grandview Trail. Loop around, merging onto the South Canyon Trail, before trekking north past the caretaker’s residence and over Paseo Road. Now tracking along the Palmer Park Trail west, you will soon join the Templeton Trail, wandering past unique rock formations. Enjoy sights of Pikes Peak as you venture along the western edge of the park.
Soon the path will travel through a small patch of woodlands before diverting you south. Here you will be rerouted onto the Greencrest Trail heading south back to the trailhead.
