Route Description for Talon and Sundance Loop Trail
The Talon and Sundance Loop is a great adventure for those hiking or biking. With an abundance of scenery to explore, you will be guided through mixed pine forests decorated with granite outcrops and lush meadowlands. Be sure to keep an eye out for mountain lions, deer, bears, and bighorn sheep! Much of the route is exposed, so be sure to wear sun protection in the summer months! Note that the Cheyenne State Park charges an entrance fee which typically costs around $9USD.
The Talon and Sundance Trail begins from the Talon Trailhead off JL Heights Road. From here, head south, and at the first intersection, veer right onto the Sundance Trail. Follow this path through the meadowlands, enjoying views of the Cheyenne Mountain, and you will eventually reach another junction—take a sharp right here. The Talon Trail will climb through diverse terrains before confronting another fork in the road; again, keep right, and you will be diverted onto the North Talon Trail. At the route’s end, hook back onto the Talon Trail and retrace your steps heading east.
Be sure to keep an eye out for wildlife as you explore the wilderness. Continue following the Talon Trail back to the trailhead, marking the end of your adventure.
