Walking the Wistlandpound Reservoir Trail really doesn’t have any drawbacks, as the route is fairly short, well-maintained, and easily accessible, even for those travelling with wheelchairs or pushcarts. Lovely views across the reservoir and a peaceful forest setting create a charming woodland atmosphere that will allow you to relax and reconnect with nature. What an exceptional way to spend a few hours exploring the outdoors on the weekend.
Setting out from the car park, you will head to the northeast to enter into the tree cover and begin making your way around the edge of the Wistlandpound Reservoir. Take some time to appreciate the setting and lovely views across the surface of the water, but also keep an eye above to see if you can spot any birds in the area. The northeast corner of the trail features a small bridge, after which, you will find a lovely picnic area that is perfect for a relaxing lunch. From here, continue along the water’s edge until you arrive back at the car park where you started your adventure.
Getting to the Wistlandpound Reservoir Trail Trailhead
To reach the trailhead for the Wistlandpound Reservoir Trail from Blackmoor Gate, drive northeast on A39 for 0.2mi and turn right onto Long Lane. Follow this for 0.3mi and turn right to continue on for 1.1mi. Turn left here and after 157ft, make another left on N Thorne Lane. You will arrive at the car park in 0.1mi.Route Information
