The Lake of the Woods Trail is a great adventure near Grand Mesa, Colorado that offers a fantastic variety of terrain and some pleasant views. While out hiking the trail, you will traverse plenty of woodland terrain, cross several streams, and make your way through lovely meadows on the way to the shores of Cottonwood Lake. Be sure to bring plenty of bug spray for this hike, as there will certainly be plenty of critters along the trail.
Route Description for Lake of the Woods Trail
Featuring a bit of a longer trail, plenty of nice scenery, and a good variety of terrain, the Lake of the Woods Trail is a great route for outdoor enthusiasts of all skill levels who want to explore the beautiful woodlands near Grand Mesa, Colorado.
Setting out from the parking area, you will head to the northeast through the forest and gently descend the hillside, before crossing over several streams. Here, you will continue on to the east across the undulating landscape and pass by the Bull Reservoirs, traversing a mixture of dense forest and open meadows on the way to the shores of Cottonwood Lake No.1. Take some time here to explore the scenic shores of the woodland lake, before backtracking along the trail to relive the forest scenery enroute to the trailhead.
Getting to the Lake of the Woods Trail Trailhead
The starting point for the Lake of the Woods Trail can be found at the end of Fire Service Road 250, just off CR65 near Griffith Lake.
