The Colorado River Overlook Trail is a short and easy route that affords hikers stunning views of the Utah desert. This hike is relatively flat and a great option for families with young children who want to get out and explore in Dead Horse Point State Park. This trail is also dog-friendly, however, dogs must be kept on a leash at all times.
Route Description for Colorado River Overlook Trail
The Colorado River Overlook Trail is a family-friendly and dog-friendly trail that starts and ends at the Visitor Center in Dead Horse Point State Park. Dogs are allowed on this trail, but they must be kept on leash at all times and their leash cannot be longer than six feet. This trail gets hot and sunny, so bring lots of water, extra sunscreen, and a good sunhat for everyone in your hiking party.
You will also want to bring along the camera as the Colorado River Overlook Trail affords hikers absolutely stunning desert views.
From the Visitors Center, follow the well marked trail north for 1.0 km to the overlook.
Take a rest at the overlook and soak in the incredible views of the Colorado River below before turning around and following the same path back to the parking lot.
Getting to the Colorado River Overlook Trail Trailhead
This trail begins at the Dead Horse Point State Park Visitor Center off of highway 313.
