Route Description for Wonderland Trail to Camp Summerland

This trail passes through lots of diverse terrain, keeping the hike interesting the whole way through. We definitely recommend hiking to Summerland Camp in the peak of wildflower season for the most rewarding day out. Do note that there can be bothersome bugs until you cross Fryingpan Creek, so bring spray.

Begin hiking through the forest, where you’ll be for about two miles. You’ll cross over Fryingpan Creek before exiting the forest. Then, begin to hike along switchbacks, passing through a few wildflower meadows filled with lakes, gaining 305 m of elevation as you approach Camp Summerland. Watch the terrain change as you cross rocky slopes and the trees become smaller.

The views slightly beyond the camp are actually better than the camp itself, so if you want to continue to the lake past camp or even Panhandle Gap, you’ll be rewarded for the extra effort.

    Return the way you came.
