Route Description for Meridian Peak via Ensign Peak Trailhead
The hike up to Meridian Peak via the Ensign Peak Trailhead is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon in Salt Lake City. This trail is moderately challenging, with some steep sections. It is essential to wear proper, supportive footwear and bring along a set of hiking poles if you’d like the extra support. There is very little shade along this trail, so be sure to put on sunscreen, wear a good sunhat, and bring lots of water with you, especially if you are hiking at the peak of summer. The views along the trail and from the top of Meridian Peak are gorgeous. For a memorable experience, we recommend starting this hike in the late afternoon and catching the sunset from the summit.
Beginning at the Ensign Peak Trailhead, follow the path north for 0.6 km, then take a right at the divide. Stay left for the next three divides to make it to the Terraces Trail. Follow the Terraces Trail for 1.3 km, then take a right to follow the path up to Meridian Peak.
Take a rest at the summit and enjoy the views before heading back along the Tower Connector Trail that will reconnect you with the Terraces Trail. Once you find yourself in familiar territory, simply retrace your footsteps back to the Ensign Peak Trailhead, where you began.
