Route Description for Four Peaks Loop Trail

Those seeking a challenge have come to the right place! The Four Peaks Loop Trail, though demanding, is unrivaled in its beauty. Those who venture this route are rewarded with astonishing views of the Bay Area and the Diablo Range. Note that much of the terrain is exposed warrants extreme conditions—so dress in layers as insurance against varying weather. Additionally, it is important to be mindful of poison oak and snakes as you trek. Note that parking is limited and located in a residential area, so it is recommended to park and begin your hike from the Mitchell Canyon Trailhead.

Setting out from the trailhead, the Four Peaks Loop follows the Donner Canyon Road southeast, gradually climbing through the chaparral and grassy meadowlands. This route runs along the curves of the gurgling creek to the trail’s end. Here, keep left, and you will be diverted onto Cardinet Oaks Road before merging onto the Olympia Trail. Turning right onto Mount Olympia Road at the next junction, you will soon reach the summit. From here, take the southernmost trail, turning left and summiting North Peak at the next intersection. Revel in the views, then follow the North Peak Trail to Prospectors Gap and up to Mount Diablo.

Revel in the expansive scenery, then retrace your steps down to the Prospectors Gap and left onto the Bald Ridge Trail. At the next juncture, connect onto the Eagle Peak Trail. Follow this route to the summit, then down to Bruce Lee Road. Turn right onto the Murchio Road and left onto Back Creek Trail, ultimately connecting with the Donner Canyon Road, which will deliver you back to the trailhead.
