Route Description for Madden Peak Hike
For those hikers who want to experience a good challenge and beautifully scenic mountain views while out on the trail, the Madden Peak Hike is a great option to get outside and take in the rugged natural beauty of the San Juan Mountains in Colorado.
Setting out from the trailhead, you will follow along the road as it leads uphill to the northeast, before branching off on a path leading through the woods. Here, you will continue to gain elevation through the tranquil atmosphere of the forest, before breaking out into the alpine landscape.
Continuing on to the northeast, you will pass through a beautiful meadow and push your way up the mountainside to arrive at a cairn at the false summit of Madden Peak. Although the route looks very steep moving forward, in reality it is actually easy to navigate. Keep on through the rocky terrain and you will quickly arrive at the summit of Madden Peak, where you will enjoy sweeping views of the San Juan Mountains. After taking in the scenery, carefully head back along the same trail to return to the trailhead.
