Route Description for Potato Lake via Spud Lake Trail
Although you will need a high clearance vehicle to reach the trailhead, the Potato Lake via Spud Lake Trail is a beautiful little hiking route that should definitely make it onto your list if you are exploring the rugged terrain of the San Juan Mountains.
Setting out from the trailhead, you will enter into the cover of the forest and follow the trail as it meanders to the north. Here, you will be able to enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of your woodland surroundings, before following the path as it bends to the northeast and leads uphill towards the shores of Potato Lake.
After arriving at the water’s edge, you will follow the trail as it skirts around the lake in a clockwise direction. Take your time here as you enjoy the views across this charming little woodland lake, before eventually meeting back up with your initial trail. If you aren’t looking to spend some time hanging out by the lake, simply head back down the same trail to return to your vehicle below.
