Franklin Falls Trail is a 3.2 km heavily trafficked out and back trail that takes you to the site of an abandoned mining town. The hike is 3.2 km long with very minimal elevation gain, so all ages and skill levels can enjoy it. There is also a waterfall on the trail. Note that the waterfall trail is on private property, so you will need to pay $5 to park in the lot and access the waterfall trail. Kids under 12 are free. If you park elsewhere and only hike on the state trails you do not need to pay.
Route Description for Franklin Ghost Town Trail
The Franklin Ghost Town Trail is a fun adventure that can be combined with a hike to a nearby waterfall and river. Note that the falls trail is on private property and there is a fee to use it. This hike is mostly uphill to the ghost town, so be prepared for a consistent, gentle incline.
From the trailhead parking lot, there are three trails. The longest trail goes to the cemetery, the midlength trail goes to the river, and the shortest trail goes straight to the waterfall. All three can be explored in one go. To get to the Ghost Town, keep right to avoid the trails that go to the falls and the river. At the ghost town site, keep left to continue on to the site of a mineshaft and the coal cart line. From here, turn around.
If you want to go to the river and the falls, take a right down the intersecting paths. If not, continue straight back to the trailhead.
