Only accessible by guided tour, the Crystal Cave Trail explores the marble karst cavern adorned with icicle-like stalactites and stalagmites. This adventure boasts an other-worldly experience.

    Route Description for Crystal Cave Trail

    Those seeking a change of pace from the quintessential treks through sequoia groves will enjoy the Crystal Cave Trail. Explore the intriguing cavern of marble polished by subterranean streams and learn all about the area’s history and ecology from your knowledgeable tour guide. As the only way to explore this cave is with a guide, tickets are quick to sell and go on sale six months in advance. Tickets cannot be purchased on-site, so get your tickets online from the Sequoia Parks Conservancy.

    Sections of the cavern have low clearance and the terrain is made slippery by moisture, so mind your footing. Additionally, the cave is often chilly, so pack a jacket to stay warm! Food and scented products need to be removed from your vehicle and stored in lockers while you enjoy the tour. Note entrance to the park costs $35USD per vehicle or $20USD per person for pedestrians or cyclists.

    Transporting visitors through an otherworldly landscape, the Crystal Cave Trail is a popular destination in the Sequoia National Park. Wander through the lush forestlands of cedars, ponderosa pines, and first down to Yucca Creek decorated with a mesmerizing cascade before entering the cave.     After you have secured your tickets, begin your adventure along the Crystal Cave Trail from the trailhead and car park off Cave Road. Setting out from here you will be guided northeastward, gradually descending through the forestlands. Enjoy the encompassing woodlands as you progress towards Yucca Creek. The sounds of the rushing water will signal you are nearing the creek and cascade. Revel in the scene of the mesmerizing seasonal falls while you wait to enter the cave.

    Beyond this point, you will need a guide. Wandering into the marble cave, the guide will detail facts about the area’s ecology and history. Learn all about the unique ecosystem that thrives underground and the impressive spires and mounds constantly evolving and growing. After your tour, head back to the trailhead the way you came.
