Route Description for Mount Silliman Hike
Put your stamina to the test along the Mount Silliman Hike. This epic excursion into the high country is commonly trekked as a backpacking expedition, though we challenge you to attempt it as a demanding day hike! Head out in the early morning to mitigate the chances of getting caught in a nasty afternoon storm and to make sure you descend before nightfall. Acclimatize to the area before heading up the mountain, and pack plenty of water! Note the park charges an entrance fee of $35USD per vehicle or $20USD per person for pedestrians or cyclists.
Embark on your adventure along the Mount Silliman Hike from the Silliman Pass South Trailhead off Lodgepole Road. Setting out from here, you will be guided northwest into the wilderness, gradually climbing through the woodlands. Eventually, the path will reroute you north, passing a lush meadow and near the Silliman Creek. When you reach an intersection, keep right and follow the more primitive and technical Silliman Lake Use Trail. Ascend this vertiginous, rocky terrain up to Silliman Lake and rest before the final push to the summit.
From here, you will have to scramble up to the peak of Mount Silliman. Admire the 360-degree, panoramic views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains that stretch for as far as the eye can see. Revel in the beauty and grandeur of the mountainscape, then head back the way you came.
