    Druid’s Circle Walk

The Druid’s Circle Walk is a unique adventure in the hills of northwestern Wales. While plenty of Snowdonia walks offer incredible scenery, few provide a face-to-face look at prehistoric stone formations like this one does. Beginning from the coastal town of Penmaenmawr, you’ll work uphill through farmland and open hills to reach the Druid’s Circle. This collection of Neolithic ruins has plenty of stories to tell - if you listen closely enough! A quick summit of Moelfre follows before walking along the North Wales Path on a pleasant stroll through open meadows. The Jubilee Walk loops you around to your starting point to cap off the outing.

Route Description for Druid’s Circle Walk

From the car park, turn right then right again onto Y Berllan. Follow the road as it turns to the left, then take your first right to a junction. The tarmac path to your left is the one to take; when it turns to the right, leave it behind and cross an open field. There’s not much of a path here, but don’t fret - head for the large sycamore tree, and a kissing gate leads you onto Graiglwyd Road. Take a left along the road, then a quick right through the Graiglwyd Farm Holiday cottages, passing the buildings on the left to reach a gate. Head through this, and the resulting path leads you up onto open hills with splendid views of your surroundings.

The path eventually crosses through a boggy area to reach a gate, which you should turn right through and follow the wall alongside it. You’ll meet up with the North Wales Path, a clear track impossible to miss. Turn left and follow this track until you spot a stream tumbling from a narrow gully. Leave the main path here and climb up the right side of the gulley, coming to the Druid’s Circle at the top of the rise. This Neolithic arrangement, thousands of years old, makes a deep impression. A little further to the right lies a smaller circle and some other scattered prehistoric remnants. At the stone cairn, turn right and follow the ridge to the summit of Moelfre, where amazing views of Anglesey and the Carneddau await you.

Retrace your steps down the hill and turn left onto a path bearing north, which brings you back to the North Wales Path. Turn right and stroll along this established path as it bears east and then curves north, with Craig Hafodwen on your left. You’ll come to a fork with a country lane on your left. If you’d like to trim down the walk, take the road - otherwise, bear right to continue along the track, which narrows to a footpath. Ignore the first left - this takes you to the summit of Y Foel Lus - and at the junction of paths, take this left instead. This ‘Jubilee Walk’ path loops you around to meet back up with the aforementioned country lane. Turn right and walk downhill for roughly 300 m until you spot a footpath leading off to your left through a kissing gate. This leads just past a small reservoir and links with a steep downhill path on your right. Follow this to Graiglwyd Road, turn left and then immediately right to cross the field, arriving at the tarmac path you came in on. Retrace your original steps to return to the car park.
