Moel Eilio Local’s Walk Route Guide

Moel Eilio Locals Walk
The Moel Eilio Local’s Walk is a short and sweet outing to the summit of Moel Eilio. The trail is well-worn and easy to follow, with very few turns to navigate.

Route Description for Moel Eilio Local’s Walk

Moel Eilio Local’s Walk in Snowdonia (Eryri)
The Moel Eilio Local’s Walk is a simple and direct way to reach the summit of Moel Eilio from the lower slopes near Llanberis. This out-and-back route follows a clear path across open moorland before climbing steadily to the top of Moel Eilio, making it a popular choice for walkers looking for a quieter alternative to busier Snowdon routes.

From the car park, walk along the road east for a short way before arriving at a gate in the wall on your right-hand side. Turn right and pass through this gate, coming out onto a footpath that winds through open moorland. A fence with a stile marks the start of a steeper section, with a second fence offering a largely unnecessary stile (since there’s an easy gap to pass through).

Then, it’s just a matter of staying along the path until you reach the summit of Moel Eilio. A large shelter provides space to break from the weather—unless conditions are good, in which case the views over to Llyn Padarn and Llyn Peris are lovely. On a clear day, Moel Eilio offers wide panoramas across Snowdonia (Eryri) and towards the coast.

When you’re ready to descend from Moel Eilio, follow the same path back down the way you came. Turn left after passing through the gate and stroll back to your car, completing this straightforward Moel Eilio hike.
