Route Description for Mint Spring Trail
Mint Spring Trail leads you up a hill to a viewpoint over Summerhaven and Mount Lemmon. This route is a perfect way to appreciate the diversity of plant species that survive in the desert, especially after rain when the washes are running and the plants are thriving. As this area recovers from a forest fire, the flora will change each year.
This route can suffer from overgrowth after a monsoon. If it’s been rainy recently, we recommend wearing long pants to help you get through unscathed. Bring plenty of water and wear sun protection.
From the trailhead, take Mint Spring Trail as it immediately switchbacks before straightening out and climbing the ridge. About 0.6 km in, you’ll navigate through a narrow, slightly exposed section. It doesn’t last long. You’ll round the ridge and then traverse the other side, approaching the viewpoint. The trail ends at the 5-way junction, where you’ll have a nice view of Summerhaven and the valley below. Look for Mount Lemmon in the opposite direction and Marshall Peak beside you. When you’re ready, retrace your steps.
