Route Description for Riley’s Canyon Trail
Riley’s Canyon Trail is a gorgeous hike in the Uinta Wilderness. This trail can be tricky to find as the wire gate marking the trailhead is just visible from the highway. We suggest using a GPS or a maps app on your phone to help you find the starting point. Once you find it, the Riley’s Canyon Trail is a slice of paradise. With incredible plant life and a lively stream running through the canyon, this little hike is full of things to explore. There’s even an old mine site at the end of the trail where you can look for rocks and artifacts. Because Riley’s Canyon Trail does not see much traffic, it is a haven for wildlife. Be sure to remain aware of your surroundings on this hike. If you do spot wildlife, do not feed or approach, and be sure to give all animals lots of personal space.
To hike Riley’s Canyon, pass through the gate and be sure to close it securely behind you before making your way northeast up through the canyon.
Take your time exploring all the nooks and crannies of this canyon. Then, when you are ready to head home, simply retrace your steps back to the boundary gate where you began.
