Route Description for Carne Mountain Trail
Carne Mountain Trail is a beautiful hike, especially in the larch season. Expect many more users than normal when the trees go golden. An early start in the fall is highly recommended. Some sections of the trail can be muddy or snowy in late season, so microspikes and poles might be helpful to have.
The hike begins at the Phelps Creek Trailhead and traverses through switchbacks for about 4.0 km, mostly in the forest to start. The views open up as you reach the basin, where you’ll likely find campers.
Past the basin, keep left at the junction and then begin climbing up the south ridge of Carne Mountain. Atop the mountain, admire the amazing views. From here, you’ll follow the same route back to the trailhead.
