Ingleborough from Clapham Walk

The Ingleborough from Clapham Walk is a breathtaking adventure that offers some challenging terrain, local history, and stunning views overlooking Yorkshire Dales National Park. While out on the trail, you will climb uphill across the moor to summit Ingleborough, the second highest point in the Yorkshire Dales. Here, you will have a commanding view over the surrounding area from a broad plateau, as well as the chance to check out the remains of an Iron Age fort.

Route Description for Ingleborough from Clapham Walk
One of the most beautifully scenic walking routes within the entirety of the Yorkshire Dales, the Ingleborough from Clapham Walk will challenge you with a lengthy overall distance and steep terrain, but will also reward you with stunning views over the surrounding valleys and moors.
Setting out from the trailhead in Clapham, you will head to the northeast along the western shore of The Lake and follow Clapham Beck as it winds through the forest. Reaching Trow Gill, head to the northwest to climb up the hillside, traversing the moor and passing by Gaping Gill on the way to the summit of Little Ingleborough.
Take in the beautiful views of the surrounding countryside, as you continue climbing uphill towards the real goal of the day, the summit of Ingleborough. After pushing up the steep and rocky hillside, you will arrive on the plateau that offers a commanding view over the Yorkshire Dales. Walk around and explore the area, making sure to check out the remnants of the Iron Age hill fort that was built by the Brigantes, a Celtic tribe that inhabited the area. From here, head east to descend the mountainside, working your way downhill across the moor on the return leg of the journey back to Clapham.
Getting to the Ingleborough from Clapham Walk Trailhead
To reach the Ingleborough from Clapham Walk trailhead from Ingleton, drive southeast on New Road/A65 for 6.4 km and turn left onto B6480, following it for 0.5 km. Make a left onto Church Avenue and continue on for 0.2 km to arrive at the starting point of the walk.
