Trekking the Andringitra & Tsaranoro Valleys of Madagascar

Upon arriving in Antananarivo, Madagascar’s capital, you will be welcomed at the airport by local representatives and taken to your hotel. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided tour of the city's key attractions, including the Queen's Palace and Independence Avenue. Antananarivo offers a vibrant blend of historic architecture, bustling markets, and stunning hilltop views.

After breakfast, head south to the artisan town of Ambositra. On the way, stop in Antsirabe for lunch and a quick tour. Known for its mineral springs, Antsirabe provides a relaxing break along National Road 7. In Ambositra, visit the Zafimaniry wood workshop, a UNESCO-recognized site for its cultural craftsmanship.

Continue along National Road 7, driving through scenic landscapes toward the vibrant town of Ambalavao. On the way, stop in Fianarantsoa, a charming city renowned for its vineyards and colonial architecture. After lunch at La Table du Roval, take a short tour of Fianarantsoa’s old town before heading to Ambalavao for the night. Prepare for the trekking portion of the trip with a detailed briefing from the National Park guide about the days ahead.

After exploring the vibrant zebu market in Ambalavao, travel to the Namoly Valley to begin the trek through Andringitra National Park. The journey starts with a scenic day hike to Miora Avaratra, an area known for its rich biodiversity and native forests. Keep an eye out for lemurs and chameleons along the trail. Descend to the campsite in Antanantsoa, nestled among towering cliffs and untouched wilderness.

Continue trekking deeper into Andringitra National Park, crossing rivers and walking through lush, green forests. As the trail climbs, the landscape becomes increasingly dramatic. Arrive at the Andriampotsy campsite, located at 2,100 meters, where sweeping views of the highlands await. This peaceful setting offers a perfect place to relax and recover after a rewarding day on the trail.

Begin the day early at 3:00 AM to take on the challenging ascent of Pic Boby, Madagascar’s second-highest peak at 2,658 meters. Reach the summit in time to witness a breathtaking sunrise and take in panoramic views across the national park. After a well-earned breakfast back at Andriampotsy, descend into a striking valley surrounded by dramatic rock formations and settle in at the Andranolava campsite.

Leave the highlands behind as the trail leads into the stunning Lataranomby Valley. Continue descending into the serene Tsaranoro Valley—often called Dream Valley—where towering granite cliffs and rolling green hills create a truly magical setting. Settle into a comfortable lodge nestled in this peaceful landscape.

The final day of trekking features an ascent of Chameleon Peak, named for its unique rock formations resembling a chameleon’s head. From the top, take in sweeping views of the Tsaranoro Valley. The trail is also known for frequent sightings of lemurs and other local wildlife. After the descent, visit a nearby village to experience daily life and connect with the local community.

After breakfast, depart Tsaranoro and begin the journey back to Ambositra. Along the way, stop at Anja Park to observe Madagascar’s iconic ring-tailed lemurs, chameleons, and unique insect species. Enjoy lunch at La Petite Bouffe in Fianarantsoa before continuing to Ambositra for an overnight stay.

Travel back to Antananarivo, stopping in Antsirabe for a relaxing lunch at Valahara Café. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner at Vue Royale, with beautiful views over the city's sparkling lights.
