After munching on breakfast, take some time to walk around Whitehorse before hopping in the air-conditioned van and crossing the border to Skagway. Amid marveling at the spectacular views dotting the drive, you’ll stop at Carcross, a vibrant quaint village, for some coffee. Once you arrive in Skagway, you will tie up your hiking boots and embark on a mild hike along the beginning of the Chilkoot Trail. Keep in mind that you’re walking the same trail that gold rushers and indigenous traders have trekked. Spend the night relaxing in Skagway.
Spend the morning promenading through Skagway, the quaint Alaskan town decorated with wild-west gold-rush style buildings. Please note that Skagway is also known as the “Gateway to the Klondike.” It’s almost impossible to let its rich history go unnoticed. Eventually, you will board a ferry to Haines before traversing the snow-capped Coast Mountains. Cross the border back into Canada and check into your hotel at Haines Junction.
Enjoy a hearty breakfast and get ready for a day breathing in the fresh mountain air. Spend the entire day trekking through Kluane National Park. Notice the collection of quintessential Canadian scenery surrounding you as you hike to the pinnacle of Sheep Mountain: snow sweeping across mountains, bear activity, rocky ridges, concaves of trees, and the vast blue Kluane Lake. During the evening, you may get the chance to board a charter plane and fly over the largest non-polar ice field in the world. Spend the night back at Haines Junction.
Another day, another hike! In the morning, you will head back to Kluane National Park for a stunning, easy hike along Auriol Trail. Expect to encounter grassy meadows and lakes while snow-capped peaks stand tall in the background. Travel back to Whitehorse in the afternoon.
Today you will leave Whitehorse for the eccentric, former boomtown: Dawson City. Before departing, you will head to the Beringia Centre for an informative glimpse into prehistoric times. En route to Dawson City, you’ll break at Five Finger Rapids. Admire the iconic natural view. Continue your journey to Dawson City, the gold rush capital. Check out Diamond Tooth Gerties Gambling Hall upon arrival.
Drive two hours along the Dempster Highway to Tombstone Territorial Park, where you will hike amid towering syenite peaks, sprawling arctic tundra, and along ridges. Look out for herds of caribou dotting the dramatic views blanketing the park.
Spend the day immersed in the rich historic tales spanning Dawson City. Some of the activities include stopping by Bonanza and Eldorado Creeks, where an active gold mine still exists and heading up to Mountain Dome for a whimsical snapshot of the magical landscape below. Enjoy the remaining hours strolling through the famed gold rush town.
Start the day by packing your bags and travelling along the Top of the World Highway back into Alaska. Wind through the high tundra until you reach the foot of Denali National Park. Check into your hotel in Glennallen.
Get ready for a day travelling and exploring one of the most rural roads in Alaska. Twisting through epic scenery, you will hop out of the van for a myriad of short treks. Admire the glacial eskers snaking through the landscape as you drive and explore. If the weather allows, you will spend the evening overlooking North America’s tallest summit, Denali, via plane.
Travel by shuttle bus into the depths of Denali National Park. Witness a collection of animals and birds in their natural habitats such as wolves, grizzly bears, moose, caribou, Dall sheep, eagles, and coyotes.
Hop in the van for a day of winding through anecdotes of history and past high tides that allure numerous beluga whales. Spend the night relaxing in Seward.
Today’s adventures include a morning hike along either the Iditarod Trail, Tonsina Beach, or inside Fort McGilvray. The afternoon includes more options: decide to go on another hike expedition or embark on a six-hour cruise drifting through the abundant marine life dotting the waters of Kenai Fjords National Park.
