Route Description for River Run Trail
The River Run Trail will please outdoor enthusiasts and history buffs alike. This amazing adventure through a historical town and dense woodlands packs a punch! Learn more about Colorado’s silver mining history as you explore the saloons, a schoolhouse, homesteads, and several other historical ruins that remain on the land. After traveling back in time, reconnect with nature and admire the beauty of the golden aspens and enjoy the sounds of the babbling waters of Castle Creek. This family-friendly adventure is a must-do the next time you find yourself in the Aspen area.
Begin your adventure along the River Run Trail from the trailhead off Castle Creek Road. From here, the River Run Trail will pass through the Ashcroft Ghost Town. Take your time to read the interpretive signs and explore the ruins of the mining town. When you are set to continue, track the River Run Trail south along the curves of Castle Creek. Let the soothing sounds of the water and the wind whistling through the trees relax you.
You will meet the trail’s end at the southernmost River Run Trailhead. From here, retrace your footing through the woodlands and the town back to the trailhead.

The River Run Trail is accessed via the River Run Trailhead off Castle Creek Road.
