Route Description for White River Ajax Trail
Admire the busy nature of the city from afar, as you venture the tranquil walking trail along the base of the ski slopes. Revel in mountain views, sights of the ski slopes, and gondolas suspended above. Traveling through lush meadowlands abundant with wildflowers in the warmer months, this trek warrants plenty of photo-ops. The route is shared with mountain bikers also, so it is important to be mindful of passers-by, as the trail is very narrow.
Begin your hike along the White River Ajax Trail from the Koch Lumber Park. From here, briefly track the Midland Trail northwest, merging onto Ajax Trail at the first intersection. The Ajax Trail will divert you southwest up a set of switchbacks before leveling out. Mildly undulating as you make your way southeast through the meadowlands, the trail will provide sweeping views of Aspen below.
As you walk, you will pass under several ski lifts and gondolas towards the trail’s end. You will reach your turnaround point when you intersect with the Ute Trail. If you still have some energy left in the reserves, then feel free to continue exploring. If not, retrace your footing along the meadow cloaked path back to the trailhead.
