Rock Point Trail

The Rock Point Trail is a short hike to one of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison’s many overlooks. This particular lookout is a great stopping spot to get out of the car and stretch your legs. Hike the short path and be dumbfounded by the magnificence of the Black Canyon.
Route Description for Rock Point Trail
Panoramic views of the river valley and the flanking steep-walled cliffs await. The Rock Point Trail is a short but sweet walk through serviceberry shrubs to the lookout point. Located on the side of the Black Canyon, the overlook and surrounding area are steep and dangerous. Ensure that you and your accompanying party stay on the trail at all times. To get to the Rock Point Lookout take the well-marked Rock Point Trail. This path will culminate at the overlook. Enjoy the vista of the keyholes, spires and craggy cliffs below. If the overlook isn't too busy and the wind is calm, you should be able to hear the sounds of the Gunnison River running through the canyon below. When you are done admiring the view, retrace your steps back to the parking lot.Getting to the Rock Point Trail Trailhead
