Route Description for Skein Lake and Raft Lake Trail
The Skein Lake and Raft Lake Hike is a lovely hike that the whole family can enjoy. Short and scenic—what more could you ask for? Wander through a corridor of pines to two shimmering pools and spend the day along the shoreline, sunning and swimming. While this route is hidden in the mountains, it often sees lots of traffic in the summer months, so expect company. Note the road to the trailhead is rough and rugged, demanding a vehicle with high ground clearance.
Embark on your journey along the Skein Lake and Raft Lake Hike from the trailhead off National Forest Development Road 438. Setting out from here, the route climbs southwest into the woodlands. Enjoy the shade of the looming pines and notice the lush undergrowth blossoming with wildflowers. After some hiking, the path will open to a small meadow that offers interrupted views of the valley below. Eventually, you will reach Skein Lake, the first stop of the hike. Admire the scene of the picturesque lake encircled by forest.
Beyond this point, the path will redirect you northwestwardly, up to Raft Lake. Take a dip in the refreshing water and marvel at the gorgeous scenery before beginning your descent. To get back to the trailhead, simply head back the way you came.
