Route Description for Glentanar Estate Circular Walk
Featuring a winding river, beautifully atmospheric forest setting, and laidback terrain, the Glentanar Estate Circular Walk is an excellent route for a wide variety of outdoor enthusiasts to become acquainted with the natural beauty of Cairngorms National Park.
Setting out from the car park, you will head to the southeast across the road and the banks of Water of Tanar in order to arrive at the visitor centre. Here, you will head right and follow the path as it leads to the southwest alongside the river, passing by Trout Loch and continuing through the dense woodland terrain surrounding a hill known as The Strone.
After looping around the hill, you will continue making your way through the forest, following the path as it turns to the north on the return leg of the route. Take some time here to enjoy the peaceful nature of the woodland landscape, pausing for a moment at the Knockie Viewpoint to catch a sight of the beautiful scenery. From here, you will complete a final loop through the forest to the northeast, before making your return to the car park alongside the river.
