Route Description for Mealna Letter and Loch Beanie Circular Walk

Begin the Mealna Letter and Loch Beanie Circular Walk from the parking layby on the B951, heading along the road to approach the forest plantation’s edge on the road’s north side. From here, turn left and proceed through the gate that opens to an expansive field. Enjoy the fresh country air as you trace the edge of the forest, maintaining your position on the right of the trees and fence. Further on, you’ll continue to stick to the right of the stone wall and fence as marvellous views of Mount Blair and Glen Isla open at your back.

Press on to the corner of the stone wall, soon arriving at the summit of Mealna Letter, where you’ll spot a brief path leading to the cairn. Revel in the beauty of the Cairngorms from this well-earned vantage point, then make your way back to the stone wall’s corner and begin your descent down the northeast ridge, keeping to the left of the wall.

Fix your eyes on Loch Beanie as it dazzles below, soon joining a faint path that heads down to the loch’s east head. Once the shoreline is reached, follow the path west, taking in an old rickety boathouse as you head towards Allt Mor.

After crossing the Allt Mor via a footbridge, stick to the faint path which leads through a gate in a deer fence and further on, through a gap in a stone wall. The views up and over Glen Shee characterize this section as you make your way towards the green and white building, and not long after, join the Cateran Trail. Follow the markers that lead you to pass behind Broughdearg and later past the Dunmay farm buildings. A way up ahead at the clear road junction, make a left to walk the road that heads over a low lying pass, making your way from Glen Shee to Glen Isla and back to the hilltop where the walk began.
