Shafer Canyon Overlook

The Shafer Canyon Overlook trail is a short walk to a fantastic viewpoint overlooking- you guessed it- Shafer Canyon. This hike is a great way to stretch your legs and get some incredible photos of Canyonlands National Park. The edges of the overlook are not barricaded so be careful and keep an eye on the little ones if you are out hiking with the family.

Route Description for Shafer Canyon Overlook
The Shafer Canyon Overlook is a great little stop just off of Grand View Road in the Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands National Park. The overlook itself is not fenced so this may not be the best hike for someone who is prone to vertigo or afraid of heights. This trail is a great place to get out with the whole family but do keep an eye on the little ones and make sure they stay far back from the edge. Don’t forget the camera- the views of Shafer Canyon from this overlook are absolutely stunning.
From the parking area, follow the short path east for a few hundred yards to the overlook.
Soak in the views of the canyon below before heading back to the car and on to the next adventure.
Getting to the Shafer Canyon Overlook Trailhead
The Shafer Canyon Overlook trail begins at the Neck Spring Trailhead along Grand View Road, just half a mile south of the Island in the Sky Visitors Center.
