Route Description for The Lathrop Trail
The Lathrop Trail is an adventurous, low-traffic route with stunning canyon views. This trail is challenging with steep, unmaintained switchbacks and vertiginous drop-offs. The Lathrop trail is recommended for experienced hikers only and folks need to be prepared for a long day traveling over rugged desert terrain. Good footwear, salty snacks and lots of water is necessary. Hiking poles are strongly recommended. We also recommend that you bring along a camera for this one, the views from this trail are some of the best in Canyonlands National Park.
From the trailhead, follow the path southeast to the Lathrop Canyon overlook, then descend the steep switchbacks into the canyon. Continue along the cairn-marked trail to the southern trailhead.
From The Lathrop Southern Trailhead you can either follow the same route back or follow the wash to meet up with the trail at the switchbacks before climbing out of the canyon and following the path back to the Northern Trailhead, where you began.
