Route Description for Ibstone and Stokenchurch Loop

The Ibstone and Stokenchurch Loop in the Chilterns is a family-friendly, easy-moderate walk that twists through the undulating countryside and a quiet wooded area. The ups and downs will get your heart rate up! Depending on the time of year, the path can be muddy, so prepare for some slippery conditions.

This hike is a favourite among locals, thanks to the scenic views and quiet wooded area. Get ready for a lovely stroll in nature, away from the noises of civilisation (once you get far enough away from the M40).

From Kings Hotel, head towards the M40, which you’ll have to cross to reach the start of the circuit. At the first junction, go left to complete the circuit in a clockwise direction. Continue straight! Just after Penley Wood, you’ll reach another junction, but ignore the path to the left and keep ahead. At the next intersection, stay left to continue straight before veering to the left. Follow the same path straight, passing by Twigside Bottom. Just after Twigside Bottom, you’ll cross over a private road. You’ll take a right around 100 m later. You’re now at the top of the loop!

Continue looping around towards Ibstone, staying right. Eventually, you’ll reach Gray’s Lane. Go right here, following the Lane for around 200 m. Soon, you’ll reach a network of paths with the option of continuing along Gray’s Lane, veering left, or taking the middle path. Take the middle path between Gray’s Lane and the path to the left. Follow this path for around 300 m before taking a left at the next intersection. Go straight, passing by the ponds and continuing towards Ibstone Road. After around 400 m on Ibstone Road, you’ll see a path to your right. Take this path and continue walking towards the M40, where you’ll follow the same path back to your car at Kings Hotel.
