    The Short Coombe Hill Loop in the Chilterns is a great alternative to the longer Coombe Hill and Chequers Court Circular Walk! Walkers will get a chance to revel in countryside views in a much shorter time frame. This is an excellent walk for families with kids and dogs.

    Route Description for Short Coombe Hill Loop

    The Short Coombe Hill Loop is a popular family-friendly walk in the Chilterns, making it tough to grab a parking spot on weekends. Be sure to head here early if you want to find a spot! It can also get muddy after rain, so come prepared with the right shoes.

    Families with young kids and dogs will love this walk! It’s short, to the point, and takes you to charming views of the countryside sprawled below.

    This walk starts in a counterclockwise direction! You’ll continue straight for about 600 m before veering right at the junction. Walk along this path for about 600 m, taking a left, followed by another quick left less than 50m later. You’re now at the top of the loop. Walk towards a Bacombe info sign. And continue to follow the path until you reach the top of Coombe Hill. After admiring the views, start making your way back around the loop towards the parking lot.

    • You can park at Coombe Hill Car Park—a free parking lot—but it can get busy on the weekends, so aim to go early.
    • There are some fantastic pubs in Wendover, so be sure to go for a pint after you walk.

    Getting to the Short Coombe Hill Loop Trailhead

    To get to the start of the Short Coombe Hill Loop, head to Aylesbury and follow Mandeville Road/B4443. Stay on Mandeville Road/B4443 at the roundabout, taking the second exit. At the next roundabout, take the second exit to go onto Risborough Road/A4010. When you get to the next roundabout, take the first exit for Nash Lee Road/B4009. You’ll then take a right onto Chalkshire Road before turning left onto Ellesborough Road. Followed by a right onto Missenden Road. Continue towards Lodge Hill! Park at Coombe Hill Car Park.
