Route Description for Columbine and Spring Creek Trail

Traveling from the base of the North Cheyenne Canyon and up its craggy walls, the Columbine and Spring Creek Trail demands some stamina. Gradually climbing for the entirety of the hike, this trek is a leg burner, but don’t let that discourage you! The beautiful scenery and epic overlooks are the best type of motivation that will surely encourage you to persist. As the terrain is quite uneven and rocky, we recommend a sturdy pair of footwear to avoid a rolled ankle! If you head out in the winter months, consider packing a pair of microspikes… just in case.

Departing from the Middle Columbine Trailhead, the Columbine and Spring Creek Trail will follow the Columbine Trail northwest. The first few steps along the path are near the road, but the route will quickly divert up into the woodlands. Demanding the navigation of several switchbacks, you will be astounded by the granite spires and bluffs that accent the path. Eventually, you will reach an intersection, veer right here, and you will be diverted onto the Spring Creek Trail.

Follow this winding path up the canyon walls. Make sure to take the time to enjoy the epic views of the foothills and the verdant canyons below through the tree breaks. Finally, you will reach the route’s end at the intersection with Gold Camp Road. From here, retrace your steps back down the path back to the trailhead.
