Note the trailhead for the Kineo Mountain via Seven Bridges Trail hike does not begin from the parking lot. Instead, explorers must park in the lot then trek past the metal gate along Gold Camp Road to the trailhead signposted for Trail #622.
There is no shortage of scenery to admire along the Kineo Mountain via Seven Bridges Trail. Combined with one of the most popular hikes near Colorado Springs, the initial segment of the hike travels along the North Cheyenne Canyon, over seven bridges, bounded by orange-hued cliffs and mixed pines. The Seven Bridges Hike is an amazing trek in and of itself, but the primitive route through an aspen grove and up the rocky mountain is the icing on the cake. Put your navigational skills to the test as you scramble up the steep terrain to the summit and revel in the panoramic views from the peak. The next time you find yourself in the Colorado Springs area, this hike is well worth the detour.
Begin your journey along the Kineo Mountain via Seven Bridges Trail from the Gold Camp Trailhead. From here, head west along Gold Camp Road, a wide dirt path, to a gate. Here you will find a path signposted for Trail #622. Take this route, and it will guide you down into the North Cheyenne Canyon. Lined with mixed pines, this route will guide you along the cliff's edge over the gurgling creek. Enjoy the venture through the corridor lined with Kineo Mountain in the north, over several bridges, and let the sounds of the gurgling waters lull you into a state of relaxation.
Eventually, you will confront an intersection. Here, turn right, and you will be diverted onto the Seven Bridges North Spur Trail. Follow this path north, through an aspen glade. Before reaching Captain Jack’s Trail, take a right turn onto a primitive, unmarked path. We suggest using the trail GPS for this section of the hike. Track up the western slope of the peak, carefully navigating the rocky terrain. Be careful; the southern slope of Kineo Mountain is quite steep, so keep your distance from the edge. From the summit, you will be granted epic views of the forested gulch below, the city in the east, Pike’s Peak in the northwest, and Mount Garfield and Mount Arthur in the north. After reveling in the breathtaking views, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
