Setting out from the car park, you will make your way east through the forest and quickly meet up with a branch of the River Allen. From here, you will follow the edge of the stream as it heads to the northeast and offers some views of the surrounding fields through the intermittent breaks in the tree cover.
Reaching the northeasternmost point of the route, you will turn to the west and climb uphill through the forest to begin a short loop around the ruins of an ancient hillfort.
