Mazama Village to Rim Village Trail
Mazama Village to Rim Village is a route that connects, as you might’ve guessed, two villages: one just south of Crater Lake and the other on the rim of the crater. You might find yourself at Mazama Village if you’re staying at the Mazama Campground, so this can be a great option if you want to reach the lake from the campground by foot. It’s a moderately difficult hike with nearly all of the elevation gain at the start of the trail. Expect light traffic.

Route Description for Mazama Village to Rim Village Trail
Mazama Village to Rim Village Trail is a route that connects the Rim Village of Crater Lake with Mazama Village to the south, where the Mazama Campground is. It’s a nice pick if you’re camping and want to visit the lake. The scenery is quite beautiful, it’s usually not busy at all, and all the elevation gain is concentrated at the start, so you’ll enjoy a long flat approach and return to the lake.
The beginning of the hike is past the bend outside the village center to the left of Annie Spring. You’ll make two switchback turns up the base of Munson Point. This is all the climbing you’ll have to do, and from here, it’s smooth sailing along Dutton Creek on the PCT towards the lake.
You’ll arrive at Rim Village with a spectacular view of enchanting Crater Lake. To return, simply retrace your steps.
