Route Description for Devil’s Elbow via Castle Trail

The Devil’s Elbow via Castle Trail is an ideal family-friendly adventure to blow off some steam. The stimulating sights and easy terrain warrant many explorers, so if you are hoping for a more secluded hike then you should consider an early morning adventure. As you travel through the diverse terrains you will be rewarded with views of Morrison, the foothills, and distant views of the Denver cityscape. Additionally, you may even spot sights of grazing elk and deer, how fun!

Embark on your adventure along the Devil’s Elbow via Castle Trail from the western trailhead. From here, track the Castle Trail. This path will guide explorers through a grassy meadow with the sparse tree coverage of towering pine. Eventually, the path will guide you to an intersection. Here, keep right and you will be diverted onto the Meadow Trail. At the next junction, keep left, trekking along the Meadow Trail until you meet the Olde Ute Trail. At this point, keep right on the route, merging quickly onto the rightmost Devil’s Elbow Trail. Track around the exposed circuit, reconnecting with the rightmost Old Ute Trail.

At the next intersection, briefly walk along the Meadow Trail before diverting left onto the Tower Trail. Hike the Tower Trail to the summit of Mount Falcon. From here enjoy expansive views of the verdant Colorado landscape below. Continue along this path until you merge back onto the Meadow Trail. Retrace your footing along the route, turning left onto the Castle Trail, and backtracking to the trailhead.
