Route Description for Fire Beacon Hill and River Otter Walk
If you are after a pleasant day walk in Devon that features a good variety of terrain and beautifully scenic views of the countryside, then the Fire Beacon Hill and River Otter Walk is a great option. Setting out from the town of Ottery St Mary, you will head to the southeast and cross over the River Otter, before traversing the open countryside. Here, you will traverse the undulating terrain that is made up of small hills, open fields, and swathes of woodland that will eventually lead you up to the summit of Beacon Hill. After enjoying the stunning views of the surrounding landscape, you will follow the trail west into the village of Harpford to once again cross over the River Otter, following it north on the return leg of the journey back to the trailhead.
Getting to the Fire Beacon Hill and River Otter Walk Trailhead
To reach the trailhead for the Fire Beacon Hill and River Otter Walk from the Ottery St Mary Heritage Museum, head south on Cornhill/B3177 for 0.2 km and turn right onto Mill Street/B3174. After 0.6 km, you will reach the starting point of the walk.
